On 10thApril 2017, Tan Cang - Cai Mep Thi Vai Terminal (TCTT) held the announcement ceremony to accommodate 160.000 DWT/ 14.000 TEU vessel. On this occasion, TCTT also received the maiden call of Yang Ming Wellhead, a 14,000 TEU container vessel. Until now, this is the largest container vessel ever to call in the SNP’s deep water terminals in Cai Mep area.
Yang Ming Wellhead of Yang Ming Lines is 368 metres long, 51 metres wide and capable of carrying 14,000 TEU. The ship was launched in 2015 and this is one of the new orders of Yang Ming Lines for 14,080- Teu vessel fleet built by Hyundai Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. The vessel serves for the Asia- North Europe having the rotation: Hong Kong - Nansha New Port - Kaohsiung - Yantian - Cai Mep Terminal - Singapore - Suez - Rotterdam - Felixstowe - Hamburg - Antwerp - Piraeus.
This is a milestone of SNP in general and TCTT in particular, in operating of deep-water terminal in Ba Ria - Vung Tau province (BRVT) and also affirms the sustainable development strategy in terminal operation of SNP in the Key economic areas throughout the country.
TCTT is a deep-water terminal in Cai Mep - Thi Vai belonging to Seaport group No. 5. The terminal is located on Cai Mep River, in Tan Thanh district, Ba Ria – Vung Tau province. It has 600 metres berth long and its annual capacity is 1.5 million TEU. On 3rd March 2017, the Vietnam Maritime Administration has issued an official letter allowing TCTT to receive 160,000 DWT vessels.
In addition, aiming at meeting the market trend as well as implementing the strategy to develop Cai Mep – Thi Vai port system as an International Transshipment Port, TCTT has been equipped with three new Super Post Panamax quayside cranes by the first quarter of 2017, raising the total number of ship to shore cranes of TCTT to seven items. These are Super Post Panamax quay cranes - new model of MES firms (Mitsui Engineering Shipbuiding) which has the max lifting capacity of 65 tons; twin lifting; able to handle 23 rows wide; handling productivity: 30-35 moves/ crane/hour.
The three new cranes contribute to improve the operation capacity as well as competitiveness of TCTT, meeting the needs of handling the large vessels to Europe and America. The fact that TCTT’s accommodation of the large container vessel and the deployment of the big mother vessels of the shipping lines to the deep-sea terminals in Cai Mep recently as well as the year-on-year volume impressive increase of over 35% in 2016 brings the good signals to the deep-sea port in Vietnam in particular and the Maritime field in general. These have proved the strategic location of the port in Cai Mep in attracting the large International transshipment vessels once the depth of the access channel is available. This is also the motivation for SNP’s management and employees to make the best efforts to enhance the effectiveness of the operation and business and firmly maintain SNP’s brand name as the Vietnam’s leading port operator and logistics services provider.
