Ocean Three was founded on September 8th, 2014. This is the first time their vessels anchored in a Vietnam’s port. With the potential of import-export between Vietnam and the US, liners in Ocean Three decided to open a new route at a Vietnam’s port.

They have chosen CMIT where the minimum depth along the berth reaches 16.5m – deepest in CaiMep- ThiVai Port Group for stevedoring. CMIT has a navigation way of -14m, vessels can have draft of 16 meters; and have wide and safe turning position. The terminal enables to receive vessels of 160,000DWT.

Vessel UASC ZAMZAM belonging to UASC, with length of 299.92 meters and capacity of 9,006TEU left Yantian port (China) before anchoring at CMIT. Then it will continue its route to Kelang Port- EL Suweis- New York- Norfolk- Savannah- Malta. Amount of the first cargo will be 1,400TEU with 45-55% of import-export cargo. The cargo was consolidated from feeders from ports in the North and the Central of Vietnam and loaded on a mother vessel at CMIT.

Mr. Nguyen Xuan Ky - Deputy General Director of CMIT, said there have been relatively good changes in CMIT lately. Particularly, the amount of cargo has a growth of 15-18%. The terminal has done transshipment work for two large vessels (with 1,500 containers/ each)- they may have done transshipment in Singapore Port or in others. “Time for customs procedure was quick, only in two hours. This created good feelings and surprise to customers.

Besides, large liners chose Cai Mep - Thi Vai for spreading effects from policies by the Ministry of Transport. Besides this is results from considerably-developing infrastructures and blooming economy… There have been practical first moves in doing transshipment- a proper function of Cai Mep - Thi Vai Port Group.

Representative of Ocean Three reveals they used to consolidate cargo from HCMC ports but the amount was not enough when they still operated separately. When joining the Alliance, they restarted by bringing vessels of largest capacity to Cai Mep for knowing the policy from the Minister of Transport with the Project of Improving Efficiency of Sea Port Group 5 and Cai Mep – Thi Vai Port Group. Believing in active policy and good guidance from the Ministry of Transport, they reopened the direct route to
Cai Mep.

“Success from the first cargo to the East coast of the U.S will also start an expectation of opening routes to the West coast of the U.S, to Europe and other places from Cai Mep. The success of Ocean 3 will surely make other foreign shipping companies start their services from CaiMep to other places and consolidating cargo from other ports in Cambodia, Thailand, the Philippines, and Malaysia to Cai Mep (Vietnam) to mother vessels, which will make Cai Mep- Thi Vai an international transshipment port,” said the representative.

Ocean Three revealed in the first month, there will be a weekly vessel from CaiMep-ThiVai to the East Coast of the U.S. They currently research in bringing more services to Cai Mep, cargo from regional countries will be brought to Cai Mep- Thi Vaito be loaded on mother vessels for international transshipment in experiment.
